Customer: Fortis Hospital, Bangalore

Fortis Healthcare Limited Overview: FHL is an Indian for-profit private hospital network headquartered in Gurgaon. The company began its operations in Mohali, Punjab, where its first hospital was established. It later expanded by acquiring the healthcare division of Escorts Group, including the Escorts Heart and Research Center, Okhla, Delhi.

The Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) in Gurgaon serves as the headquarters for Fortis Healthcare. In addition to its Gurgaon facility, Fortis Healthcare operates hospitals in the Delhi NCR, including locations in Faridabad, Noida, Vasant Kunj, and Shalimar Bagh, along with other facilities across India, Dubai, and Sri Lanka. The company currently manages 36 healthcare facilities

Project Overview: At Fortis Hospital, Bangalore premises, we received an order for 17 ECTi units and supplied ECTi IMDs for their AHU motor modernization project. We undertook the challenging task of modernizing 5 existing conventional belt and pulley three-phase induction motors.

We completed the installation of the first lot of ECTi IMD top mount 3.7KW motors (5 units) using the same belt and pulley setup through ABB ChP. By replacing the conventional IE2 three-phase induction motors, we achieved a 29% energy saving. Please find below a brief overview of the ECTi IMD installation steps:

The existing AHU’s Blower installed with IE2/3.7KW Motor throw belt and pulley setup and existing

motor are operating by DOL Starter panel.

  1. We have removed the existing IE2/3.7KW induction motor from the base frame.
  2. We have mounted the ECTi IMD top mount 3.7KW motor on the existing base frame without any base frame modification.
  3. We have designed a new pulley based on the IMD 3.7KW motor shaft size, coupled it with the motor shaft, and verified the pulley alignment.
  4. We have arranged a new cogging belt based on the motor and blower pulley height.
  5. We have connected the belt with the motor and blower.
  6. The existing motor was operating through a DOL panel, which we have now isolated.
  7. After installing the IMD 3.7KW motor, we connected the input power cable to the IMD drive from the existing DOL panel breaker output.
  8. We conducted a motor no-load test from 1500-1800 RPM, which was found to be satisfactory.
  9. We conducted a load test and set the motor speed at 1500 RPM based on customer confirmation. We measured the power at the main breaker input side and found it to be

2.43KW as displayed on the IMD. Please refer to the following pages for the captured data from the site.

  1. We observed the motor performance one week after installation and found that the motor is operating in very good condition.
